Country Day was started in 1937 by a small group of Cedar Hill citizens to renew old friendships.

In the beginning it was called the Old Settlers Reunion.

A few years later it came under the supervision of the Cedar Hill Volunteer Fire Dept.

As time went on, the event grew and many former citizens of the area returned home for a few short hours each year to renew their friendships. In later years it was taken over by the Chamber of Commerce and now is under the supervision of a group of concerned citizens known as The Friends of Country Day, Inc. In early 2000, Country Day on the Hill was incorporated in a need to reinforce the already strong structure of the nonprofit organization. It has grown in the last few years to crowds estimated between 8,000 and 10,000 visitors on the streets of our Historic Downtown Cedar Hill, Texas, and is an annual fall festival event of which Cedar Hill is very proud of. It is sponsored by the Country Day Committee, City of Cedar Hill, generous businesses and private citizens.

This annual fair is held on the second Saturday each October.

As we now celebrate the 80th annual Country Day on the Hill, and Old Settlers Reunion, in this continually growing city of Cedar Hill, various event names have been tried but the spirit, love and fellowship has endured. This downtown historic site welcomed our early settlers each Saturday and gave them relief from the hard working days on the farms. It is a day of celebration and we invite everyone to join us and give thanks. Parades, competitions, games, demonstrations, church gatherings, musicians and some great food have filled the square year after year. We want to express our gratitude to the members of the Country Day committee and event partners for a spectacular job in 2015. Your generous volunteer dedication is greatly appreciated. The support of Mayor Rob Franke, Mayor ProTem Christopher Parvin, Councilmen Daniel Haydin, Clifford Shaw, Wallace Swayze, Stephen Mason and Jami McCain is sincerely appreciated each year. City Manager Greg Porter, Assistant Manager Melissa Stephen, and their warm wonderful administrative staff have always been a great support of the event. The Cedar Hill Police Department under the supervision of Police Chief Steve Rhodes, Assistant Chief of Police Steve Lafferty, Assistant Chief of Police Rodney Thompson, and Lt. Charles Reiss provides the great security support at the event. The Fire Department “Fire Safety House” is a huge part of Country Day, our thanks to Chief John Ballard, Fire Marshall Reginald Alexander and EMS Chief Kevin Cunningham. The Country Day committee has been praised for its success and part of this success is due to the efforts of the Cedar Hill Parks and Recreation team of Clifton Felts, Shawn Ray and Carolyn Skeels. Their superb crew makes it all happen each and every year. Our thanks are extended to the City of Cedar Hill, City Street Department, Main Street, and the Cedar Hill ISD for their extensive support throughout the years. Many thanks also go to our local businesses for their generous sponsorship and support that enable Friends of Country Day to continuously provide the finances necessary to produce this beloved festival. Please join us for the 80th annual Country Day on the Hill in the Downtown Historic District Saturday October 14th, (9:00AM to 6:00PM) and for Old Settlers Reunion Friday October 13th (5:30PM to 8:00 PM).
