Anyone can enter this event. You need not be a professional chef. This is a good old fashioned, hometown cooking contest. If you've never competed in a cooking contest before, this is a great opportunity to try your hand at basic competition cooking. Cash Prizes will be awarded for Best Competition Chili & Gumbo, People's Choice Chili & Gumbo Award and Best Showmanship Award Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded on the Ms. Jimmies Main Stage following the competition.

Anyone can enter and there is no fee.

Tasting Judges

Anyone can enter and there is no fee.

COMPETITION RULES

All contestants must make 1 gallon of chili or gumbo. One pint will be submitted for judging in a container provided by sponsors and the rest will be distributed to the public when they present a “Tasting Cup” to your booth. All teams will be entered in the Competition Chili or Gumbo, the People’s Choice Chili or Gumbo, and Showmanship categories.
1. Registration and setup will begin at 8 am. Setup will be on Texas Street. Cooking teams must start their dish preparation by 9 am. Head cook from each team is required to attend a cooks meeting at the sponsor’s tent at 10 am.
2. Each team will be assigned a 10’ x 10’ preparation area. Tents are welcome. No electrical outlets or water will be provided.
3. Teams are encouraged to decorate their area and themselves or with the help of their team.
4. No ingredient may be precooked in any way prior to the commencement of the official cook-off at 9 am. The only exceptions are canned or bottled tomatoes, tomato sauce, peppers, pepper sauce, beverages & broth. Meat may be treated, pre-cut or ground. MEAT MAY NOT BE PRECOOKED. (Only exception being andouille sausage for gumbo) All other ingredients must be chopped or prepared during preparation period. Head cook will be required to taste his/her own submissions if asked.
5. Contestants are responsible for supplying all of their own cooking utensils, equipment, fuel and water. 
7. Turn in time of submissions for judging will be at 2 pm. 
8. Tasting cups will be sold for the People's Choice judging starts at 2 pm. Teams will then supply “tastes” to all who present a tasting cup to your booth. 
9. Awards will be announced from the main stage at approximately 3 pm. 
10. If you plan to use any shellfish in your gumbo please communicate to the judges for the sake of allergies.

Cash Prizes will be awarded as follows:

• Competition Chili – Trophy and $250 – Blind judged on taste, color, texture.
• People’s Choice Chili – Trophy and $150 – Judged by participants who purchase taste cups.
• Showmanship – Trophy and $100 – Judged based on best thematic presentation.

PAPER APPLICATION DEADLINE IS 10:00 PM WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5th
